How the Les Mills GRIT program works
So, what is Les Mills GRIT Training? In short, GRIT is a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout program that consists of three separate classes: Strength, Athletic, and Cardio. Each 30-minute session focuses on different fitness objectives, so you can attend the one that best aligns with your goals.
Here’s an overview of the three Les Mills GRIT classes.
Les Mills GRIT Strength
If your aim is to get stronger and build muscle, Les Mills GRIT Strength is for you. In this strength training class, you’ll switch between barbell, weight plate, and bodyweight exercises, giving you a full body workout that covers all major muscle groups.
Les Mills GRIT Athletic
Train like an athlete in Les Mills GRIT Athletic, a sports conditioning workout that’s designed to increase your speed, agility, and power. As an attendee of this class, you’ll use athletic equipment and perform bodyweight exercises to get lean and strong.
Les Mills GRIT Cardio
Finally, Les Mills GRIT Cardio is a calorie-burning HIIT workout that helps you get faster and improves your cardiovascular health. Like the other GRIT classes, bodyweight exercises are a key part of these group workouts, with an extra focus on heart-healthy movement.
Benefits of the program
While the specific benefits of each GRIT program may vary slightly, they’re all excellent workouts that get your heart pumping and help you stay fit. Because HIIT emphasizes brief, intense periods of exercise, followed by recovery, it delivers a highly-effective workout in a shorter amount of time.
On top of that, GRIT and other interval training classes can help you burn fat, gain muscle, and lower your heart rate and blood pressure. Even better? HIIT boosts your metabolism during and after your workout, so you can keep burning calories – even several hours after you’ve finished exercising.
Other Les Mills training options
If HIIT isn’t your thing, there are also plenty of other Les Mills fitness classes to consider. Some of the most popular options include:
- BodyPump: Les Mills’ signature strength training session that helps you get lean and toned.
- BodyCombat: One of Les Mills’ pumped-up cardio classes that’s inspired by martial arts.
- Core: A science-based workout that’s designed to increase your core strength and athletic performance.
- BodyStep: Another total body workout that combines cardio and bodyweight exercises to tone your lower body.
- BodyAttack: This boot camp class blends calorie-burning cardio moves (like running and jumping) with strength training for a high-energy workout.
