Complete Les Mills’ Initial Training
The first step in the Les Mills instructor certification is attending one of the company’s Initial Training sessions. Here, participants will receive step-by-step training on how to lead the Les Mills class of their choice. They’ll also get the program’s instructional materials (including choreography and music), so they can continue training on their own.
Key concepts taught during Initial Training include:
- Why Les Mills exercise classes are effective and beneficial
- How to structure a Les Mills class
- How to learn and teach choreography
- How to keep class attendees safe and motivated
- How to make workouts fun and inspirational
Initial Training courses are typically held on Saturdays and Sundays, split into two eight-hour days. They can be completed either in person or online.
Submit an assessment video
The second and final step of Les Mills training involves recording and submitting an assessment video within 60 days of finishing Initial Training. The video will need to show the aspiring Les Mills instructor teaching a full-length class. It will also need to prove that the trainers are competent in three key areas: choreography, technique, and coaching.
Participate in ongoing education
After receiving their Les Mills certification, instructors can sign up for advanced training and ongoing education sessions to keep their skills sharp.
As part of this continuing education, trainers can attend personal and professional development webinars and interact with fellow Les Mills instructors. They can also take advantage of the company’s personalized feedback system, which allows instructors to upload a video of themselves presenting a class and receive advice on how to improve their techniques.
Another way for coaches to stay up-to-date is by signing up for Les Mills Connect, a digital platform where they can find job openings and get updates straight from the Les Mills organization.
