Aquatics
Pool workouts are one of the best ways to stay in shape without putting lots of pressure on your joints. In fact, experts often recommend aqua-based exercises for people suffering from arthritis or joint stiffness.
At CA, we have several aquatics classes for seniors living with arthritis, including our much-loved Aqua Arthritis sessions. In these all-levels classes, you’ll complete a series of gentle movements designed to help relieve pain and stiffness.
On top of that, we have Aqua Yoga classes to boost your physical and mental health through exercise. Both of these aqua senior fitness sessions are held in our warm-water therapy pool, which keeps your body comfortable and supported throughout the workout.
Mind-body exercises
Incorporate mindfulness into your workout routine with one of CA’s mind-body senior fitness courses. These programs help get your mind, body, and spirit into alignment by combining movement, mindful breathing, and meditative exercises.
For example, you can attend our community tai chi sessions for a gentle, flow-focused workout that increases your strength flexibility and coordination. You can also come to a qigong class at CA, which helps boost your mental and physical health through exercise, breathwork, and mindfulness.
You’ll also find a wide selection of all-levels yoga classes at CA, with regular sessions held at each of our three Columbia fitness clubs. During your yoga practice, you will focus on poses that improve your balance, flexibility, and strength – in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. You can even sign up for specialty classes (like chair yoga) that incorporate props, such as chairs, resistance bands, and blocks, to keep your body supported.
Dance
Move to the beat in a dance-based senior group fitness class at CA! No matter if you’re a regular dancer or if it’s been a while since you’ve shown off your moves, our senior dance sessions are a fun and lively way to keep active.
In our Zumba classes, for example, you’ll have a blast learning original choreography set to the tune of Latin rhythms. If you prefer ballroom dance, CA’s LaBlast Dance Fitness courses are a great way to practice this style of dance while also working your muscles and building strength.
