Important Information

Make-Up Policy

Please note, we keep lesson costs down by offering set lesson dates and limited makeups. That said, we know weather, children, and pool equipment can be unpredictable. Outdoor morning lessons are offered Monday-Friday and we will teach all 5 days weather permitting but makeups will not be offered if we have to cancel one. These are priced at an additional discount because only 4 of the 5 lessons are guaranteed.

Indoor and evening lesson sessions will run 6 weeks and makeups, and in the event of a weather-related cancellation, makeup date information will be forwarded. We will also offer some makeup options in August for classes missed for personal reasons. These will need to be scheduled in advance, please email swimlessons@columbiaassociation.org with the swimmer’s name and missed lesson information to schedule your makeup lesson and note that we will not begin scheduling makeup lessons until lessons have begun. If you have additional questions, please contact swimlessons@columbiaassociation.org.

*Please note that make-up lessons may have a different time/location/instructor than your regular schedule.

A $10 fee will be assessed if lessons are cancelled three days or less before the start of a group, individual, clinic or prep class. Once the session has begun and the slot has been made unavailable to others, the class will be considered non-refundable barring exceptional circumstances. To reschedule a personal swim training session, students must notify the instructor at least 24 hours beforehand or the scheduled session will be billed as scheduled.

FAQ

Why does the pool say it’s closed online when I have lessons scheduled?

The pool is not open to the public during lessons most of the time, so Google and other search engines may not show accurate information. You can find pool status updates on our website at columbiaassociation.org/PoolStatus

Do you close for rain?

No. We do not usually close for rain.  We Do close for Lightning/Thunder. We will close for rain if the rain is so hard that we cannot see the bottom of the pool.  This is the same guidance for closing the pool itself so we will not cancel lessons if the pool is Open.

What if there is lightning/a bad storm!?

In addition to the outdoor pools, the Main pool of the swim center is not grounded and consequently must be closed for Safety in the event of lighting.  The pool will remain closed for 30minutes after the last Known lightning in the area at which point the pool can reopen.  We will offer as many lessons as possible in the time we have available, but each storm is different and the lesson coordinator will be the best resource for real-time updates.  In the event of storms/cancellation, we will do our best to contact you with the phone number and email linked to the lesson registration.  We appreciate your patience and understanding of the unscheduled nature of this type of situation.

Should my kid “graduate” to the next class after attending one session?

Sometimes.  But more often than not the answer is no.  Lesson types cover a variety of information and it is normal for it to take several sessions to really have all the concepts in place to build on the next level of learning.

Are non-members allowed to take swim lessons with CA?

During the school year we will no longer be allowing non-members to sign up for swim lessons to reserve the limited space for CA-members and Columbia card-holders. During the summer months, we will continue to allow non-members to sign up for swim lessons because we have additional staff and pool space to offer.
