A Summer of Community Wellness
Nothing makes us happier than a summer spent celebrating the joy of movement with this community. 💃🏽
There’s been lots to celebrate, from beloved traditions like Dancin’ Under the People Tree to partnerships that increase access to movement opportunities in the community. Here’s just a glimpse into what we’ve been up to here at CA!
Serving up smiles
CA’s tennis team is collaborating with the Youth & Teen Center to introduce the game of tennis to underserved youth in the community each week, free of cost.🎾
Free outdoor fitness
CA Moves is a series of free outdoor fitness classes open to anyone in the community. In partnership with the Inner Arbor Trust, CA instructors teach weekly yoga and bootcamp classes at the Chrysalis in Merriweather Park.🧘♀️ This series also includes our infamous Dancin’ Under the People Tree tradition, where all ages gather at the Downtown Columbia Lakefront to move and groove together.
Community walk and talks
This free monthly community program fosters health education, social connection and movement outdoors in nature. Every third Saturday of the month, participants learn about a current health topic from a healthcare professional, then spend the rest of the hour walking, talking and soaking in the beauty of Lake Kittamaqundi.
Empowering kids through golf
The First Tee of Howard County was designed specifically for young people who might not otherwise have an opportunity to experience the game. This program provides more than 600 youth with life skills, core values and health habits through unique programming that uses golf as its tool. CA is proud to host First Tee at Fairway Hills Golf Club.⛳
Free swimming
On the second Sunday of each month, Columbia Card holders swim for free at CA’s 23 outdoor pools. PSA: Obtaining a Columbia Card is an easy and free process!
