Why You Should Add “Exercise Snacks” To Your Routine
Ever feel stiff, achy or sluggish throughout your day? According to CA personal trainer Darrell Gough, “exercise snacks” are an amazing way to integrate more movement into your life and feel your best.
Exercise snacks are just short, simple bursts of physical activity (yes, dancing in your kitchen counts!). You may be surprised just how much they can enhance your wellbeing. One recent study found that even 4-second bursts of exercise can improve your fitness in a meaningful way.
Anyone can benefit from exercise snacks — so check out Gough’s tips for making them a habit!
Exercise snack ideas
Humans were made to move, and our bodies pay the price when we’re sedentary. That’s why exercise snacks are so powerful — they keep us active and energized.
What’s more, you don’t need any special equipment or fitness knowledge to working them into your routine. You don’t even need to change your clothes!
Here are some simple ideas:
- Do squats or lunges during commercial breaks
- Take the stairs
- Do two minutes of jumping jacks on your lunch break
- Do 30 seconds of cat-cow pose when you wake up
- Break away from your inbox for one minute of wall push-ups
- Take a brisk walk while you’re talking on the phone
It’s helpful to consider your energy carefully — how do you feel, and how do you want to feel? Exercise snacks are great for helping you accomplish your desired energy shifts.
If you’re dragging, consider adding high-energy music to your movement. Feeling jittery? You may benefit from a moment of peace and quiet as you strike a yoga pose.
