The basics of AMRAP
The main goal of an AMRAP workout is to do a set list of moves as many times as you can in a set amount of time. An example of a popular AMRAP-style workout is Crossfit. However, your training doesn’t have to be quite as intense to help you meet your goals!
You control the time you want to work out and the moves you want to do. That ensures it’s a safe and versatile option that helps you track your improvements.
How to get started
First, get the list of moves together that you want to include in your workout and set your time limit.
If you’re just getting started with your fitness routine, set ample time so you give yourself some breathing room. Don’t over-extend yourself right at the start. Yes, that means it’s perfectly fine if your time limit is one minute! Starting small is the most sustainable strategy.
Start the timer
If you’re just getting started with AMRAP, you can assess your progress by taking note of how many reps you complete in your given time frame. Sticking with the same workouts and reps each time helps you notice improvement as you grow stronger.
When you complete each workout set once, that’s considered a circuit. The more you do an AMRAP workout, the more circuits you’re likely to fit into your time frame. That’s progress!
Customize your workout
The beauty of AMRAP is you can customize your workout to your fitness goals. If you’re trying to lose inches around your waist, focusing on the core will help. But if you want to build upper body strength, you can work on reps for that instead.

Injuries occur most often when people forget to focus on form. If your feel like your form is starting to fail, take the reps more slowly. Overall, doing the workout correctly is what will help you meet your goals (not the speed at which you do them).
