Exercise Outside With CA Summer Moves
Ready to take your fitness routine outdoors this summer? We’re proud to introduce CA Summer Moves, Columbia Association’s outdoor fitness and movement program. From afternoon dance sessions to lakeside walk and talks, yoga beneath the trees and aqua fitness classes, we’ve got you covered with fun ways to stay active this summer.
With a mix of free activities open to all (and a few exclusive offerings for CA members), this program promises a summer filled with fun, sweat and community. Lace up your shoes, grab your yoga mat and join us for an unforgettable season!
Yoga & Boot Camp in the Park (Chrysalis Stage at Merriweather Park)
CA’s outdoor yoga and boot camp classes, held alternating Mondays at the Chrysalis stage in Merriweather Park is a great way to strengthen your body, enhance flexibility and relax your mind. Whether you’re looking for the calming benefits of yoga or the sweat-inducing challenge of boot camp, our yoga teachers and personal trainers from the CA Fitness Team welcome and embrace all levels. Yoga and boot camp classes are held on alternating Mondays at 6pm starting with a boot camp class on Monday, June 26.
There’s something incredibly grounding about feeling the earth beneath you and breathing in fresh air while flowing through your practice. Just bring a yoga mat (or a beach towel will do just as well) and water bottle, and make sure you’re wearing flexible and breathable clothing that allows for ease of movement.
Free outdoor yoga and boot camp classes (alternating each week) take place at the Chrysalis at Merriweather Park starting Monday, June 26 and continue through October. Check the CA Summer Moves calendar for details.
Members-Only Aqua Yoga at Stevens Forest Pool
Aqua yoga is a unique and rejuvenating way to bring your yoga practice into the water! The buoyancy of the water provides gentle support, reducing the impact on joints and allowing for greater ease of movement. The resistance of the water also adds an additional challenge, engaging the muscles and enhancing strength and stability.
This practice offers numerous benefits: increased flexibility, improved balance, enhanced relaxation, and relief from stress and tension. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or new to the practice, we invite you to enjoy this refreshing practice.
For CA Play members, we feature morning weekday yoga at Stevens Forest pool, starting at 8:30 am Monday through Friday starting May 30.
Dancin’ Under the People Tree
For decades, the vibrant tradition of Dancin’ under the People Tree has brought joy, movement and a sense of community to downtown Lakefront.
As the sun begins to set on selected Friday and Saturday evenings throughout the summer, people of all ages gather under the famous People Tree for a lively and rhythmic celebration.From the smooth rhythms of Latin dances like salsa and merengue to the energetic beats of hip-hop and the graceful movements of ballroom, there’s something for everyone . Thanks to CA’s experienced instructors, dancers are guided every step of the way
Dancin’ Under the People Tree takes place Saturdays through June 10 and then Fridays starting June 23 throughout Lakefront Live. All sessions start at 7pm, and are followed by a movie under the stars.
Bootcamp with Darrell at Columbia Athletic Club
Are you ready to take your fitness to the next level? For current CA fitness members, Bootcamp with Darrell, is a fun and dynamic program designed] to increase strength, endurance and overall fitness. This program offers a progressive eight-week cycle that will help you build up mileage, core work and strength training.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6 am, the Athletic Club becomes the starting point for a session that combines running, strength training and calisthenics, led by experienced CA trainer Darrell Gough.
The progressive nature of the program means that regardless of your current fitness level, there’s a place for you to start and grow. Darrell also provides personalized attention and modifications to ensure everyone can participate. Bootcamp isn’t just about physical transformation—it’s about building a supportive community that uplifts and encourages one another.
Participation in Bootcamp with Darrell requires a CA membership, granting you access to club facilities and amenities at CA’s fitness clubs and more. Your membership also opens the door to a wide range of fitness classes, additional training opportunities and community events, creating a well-rounded fitness experience beyond Bootcamp.
Bootcamp with Darrell takes place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning at 6am at Columbia Athletic Club.
