Out in the Open (Space): Updates for Week of Jan. 31, 2021
January 31, 2021
We’re shaking off the January frost and ramping things up around here.
Here’s what’s going on in Open Space this week:
- Neighbors in Kings Contrivance will see a bridge replacement project happening at KCBR-01 off Cape Ann Drive. Weather permitting, crews will take out the old bridge and install a new one. That means the pathway around that area will be closed for about a week while everything gets traded out. Crews will come back and pave the bridge a few weeks later.
- Contractors will be at RH-11 Great Star Drive in River Hill where they plan to regrade a swale on the top side of the tot lot and re-mulch the area. This project is expected to be completed within 10 days, depending on weather conditions. RH-11 will be closed to the public during this project.
- We have that update we promised on the stream restoration project continuing in Harper’s Choice, Wilde Lake and Town Center, including plans for planting more than 10,000 trees and shrubs in that area. Check out that article here.
- We continue collecting wildlife photos from all around the Columbia community, and WOW. You all are talented! Tag your picture with #ColumbiaWildlife on social media, and you could see it shared on CA’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.
We don’t need a hero, we need a heron! This heron was spotted right here in Columbia.
Did you know, that there are 64 different species of herons? That’s twice the number of football teams in the NFL!
