CA Selected as Host Organization for the Chesapeake Conservation and Climate Corps Program
Columbia Association (CA) is proud to announce it has been selected as a host organization for the 2024-2025 Chesapeake Conservation and Climate Corps program.
The Corps program, created by the Maryland Legislature in 2010 and facilitated by the Chesapeake Bay Trust, pairs young adults entering the environmental field with organizations across the state dedicated to protecting natural resources.
Through one-year placements, Corps members gain hands-on experience and help directly improve and strengthen our local communities.
“CA is honored to be chosen as a host organization for this important program, which equips the next generation of environmental leaders with valuable work experience and skills,” said CA Conservation Landscape Specialist Eric Walker. “Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at CA, and we believe investing in future change-makers and stewards is an investment in a greener future.”
Through the Corps program, CA is excited to welcome AJ Lockner to the Sustainability team, where he will serve as a Conservation Landscape Specialist until August 2025.
Lockner graduated from Haverford College in May 2024 and will help support several environmental initiatives during his time at CA. This includes invasive plant removal, advancing geographic information system (GIS) technology and engaging the community through volunteer programs.
CA is a nationally recognized leader in environmental sustainability, dedicated to efforts such as advancing clean energy, addressing climate change, protecting and restoring Columbia’s watershed. You can learn more at columbiaassociation.org/open-space/sustainability-initiatives.

About the Chesapeake Bay Trust (Trust):
The Chesapeake Bay Trust (Trust) shares a bold vision for a restored and protected Chesapeake Bay watershed and other natural resources in our area—from the Coastal Bays to the Chesapeake to the Youghiogheny River. We uniquely empower local community-based groups on the ground with the resources they need to take on a meaningful and measurable role in restoring forests, streams, rivers, bays, wildlife, and more in their own communities. The Trust empowers these groups by providing grants and technical assistance. Since 1985, the Trust has awarded $140 million in grants and engaged hundreds of thousands of resident stewards in projects that have a measurable impact.
