Columbia Cleans Day is April 13, 2024!
We all have a responsibility for keeping our precious natural areas litter-free. CA is proud to support Columbia Cleans Day, a long-standing tradition that gives everyone the opportunity to help the environment in their own backyard.
How it all started…
Columbia Cleans Day started as an Earth Day celebration. Residents were encouraged to pick up trash and then leave it at any CA tot lot or monument. Then, the Open Space crew would go out to every single spot to see if there was any trash left. There was even one point where the crew gathered up the trash and relocated it in one pile and called it “Trash Mountain,” showing how much trash was picked up just from this one day by the residents.
Eventually, it became a more formalized event and CA wanted to provide even more support. With the help of grant money, CA provides trash grabbers, vests, maps and bags. CA also picks up all the litter after the event. Columbia Cleans Day now has been going strong for more than 20 years!
Each village organizes their own Columbia Cleans Day effort. Check below for more information on what’s happening in your village!
