Long Reach Tennis Club construction under way, bringing new indoor courts to Columbia
Construction on the Long Reach Tennis Club is under way, with the new, state-of-the-art facility expected to open in Columbia by spring 2018.
Long Reach Tennis Club will have six climate-controlled courts with viewing areas and hard-court surfaces; cutting-edge lighting technology for enhanced visibility, giving players a better experience; locker rooms with showers; and will be the first Columbia Association (CA) tennis facility with on-site racket stringing service.
“We’re continuing to work hard to provide the best services and facilities to our members and residents,” said Dan Burns, director of sport and fitness for Columbia Association.
Long Reach Tennis Club will be located off Old Dobbin Lane, across the street from Long Reach High School’s ball fields. It will replace the Owen Brown Tennis Bubble, which is at the end of its useful life. The five indoor courts in Owen Brown will then be converted to outdoor courts after Long Reach Tennis Club opens, increasing the total number of CA tennis courts from 33 to 39.
“There’s a significant number of tennis players in our community” said Maury Bozman, tennis general manager for Columbia Association. “Adding more courts will help us serve the demands of our members and guests, who’ve been seeking more opportunities to play.”
The total number of CA tennis courts will include 10 indoor courts — six at Long Reach Tennis Club and four at Columbia Athletic Club; and 29 outdoor courts — six at The Racquet Club at Hobbit’s Glen, 12 at Owen Brown Tennis Club, and 11 at Wilde Lake Tennis Club.
