Keep calm and bark on! Dog Day returns on October 13 in Columbia
Keep calm and bark on! Columbia Association (CA) is excited to announce that it will be hosting the annual Dog Day on Saturday, October 13 from 10am to 2pm at Columbia DogPark. The park is located at 5901 Rivendell Lane, off Cedar Lane and adjacent to Cedar Lane Park, near the Harper’s Choice Village Center.
Preregistration is not required but is encouraged via www.columbiaassociation.org/dogday for quicker entry on the day of the event.
CA invites local canines — and their people — to a free afternoon of contests, treats, activities and lots of tail-wagging fun. Dog lovers can enter their four-legged friends into the Tail-Wagging Contest; Costume Contest; Best Trick Contest; and the Biscuit-Eating Contest. The winner of this year’s Cutest Canine Contest will be announced on Dog Day — voting is open online at bit.ly/cutestcanine2018 through October 10.
Back by popular demand this year will be pet communications readings with pet communicator Emerald DuCoeur. Pet communications readings will be $10 for 10 minutes. There also will be a session of “Yoga for People With Dogs.
Additional entertainment may include raffles, music, food — yes, for dogs and for humans — pet demos, face painting, a moon bounce (for people only) and caricature artists. Caricature drawings of your loveable four-legged friend are $10 per face for a black-and-white drawing and $20 per face for a color drawing. CA also will be selling official Dog Day Afternoon T-shirts for $15.
In addition, CA will be collecting items to be donated to a local nonprofit, including:
- canned cat and dog food
- dry cat and dog food
- soft treats and biscuit-type treats
- new dog and cat toys (Kong-type indestructible toys are great!)
- blankets and towels
- buckle- or martingale-type collars
This free event also will feature local businesses and organizations that focus on the health, happiness and well-being of our beloved furry friends.
A rain date has been set for Sunday, October 14 from 10am to 2pm at Columbia DogPark.
