Update on the Future of Columbia Horse Center
We have received a number of questions and concerns about the future of the Columbia Horse Center, and Columbia Association (CA) wants to address the ongoing situation.
CA owns the Columbia Horse Center and has leased its operations to the current operator for about 20 years. That lease expires on December 31, 2020. In accordance with good business practices, CA issued a competitive request for proposals (RFP) to operate the Columbia Horse Center in June 2020. The goal of the RFP is to provide the highest quality of affordable equestrian experience to the greatest number of community members with a focus on our residents and best practices for sustainable land use.
We are in the process of negotiating with the respondents. We do not have a signed lease with anyone at this time, and CA does not share details on the respondents to this kind of process until it is complete.
CA plans to continue operating the Columbia Horse Center under a lease with an experienced equestrian center operator. At this point, we are still working through who that will be, but we will share this information with the community as soon as it is available. There are no plans to eliminate the boarding program. However, until the lease is signed, we do not know and cannot communicate the full extent of the new operations. We hope to have a new lease signed by the end of September. If you currently board your horse or would like to board a horse at the Columbia Horse Center, we ask that you complete this short survey to ensure a smooth transition with the new operator.
Thank you very much for your patience and your interest in the Columbia Horse Center. We will continue to update you as soon as we possibly can.
