COLUMBIA ASSOCIATION EARNS 2020 ENERGY STAR® AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE
Columbia, MD, March 31, 2020 – Columbia Association (CA) is proud to announce that it received a 2020 ENERGY STAR® Award for Excellence for its important contributions to energy efficiency. CA’s accomplishments will be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. next year.
CA, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2012, will be honored for Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion. “We are excited to be recognized as a leader in promoting efforts to reduce energy consumption, lower utility costs, and protect the climate,” said Jeremy Scharfenberg, CA energy manager. Over the last seven years, CA has worked aggressively throughout its building portfolio to advance clean energy practices and promote ENERGY STAR programs in the community. ENERGY STAR products and programs are some of the most effective ways members of our community can reduce the threat of climate change.
CA’s approach to promoting energy efficiency and sustainability through ENERGY STAR included: 1) Broad community engagement through quarterly energy meetings and participation in fairs and workshops; 2) Promotion of ENERGY STAR products and programs through print, electronic, and social media; and 3) Significant advocacy for the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program centered on a residential energy efficiency cooperative managed by CA and a non-profit teaming partner.
“I salute the 2020 ENERGY STAR award winners,” said Anne Idsal, EPA Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation. “These leaders demonstrate how energy efficiency drives economic competitiveness in tandem with environmental protection.” ENERGY STAR Excellence Awards are given to companies and organizations in recognition of important contributions to energy efficiency.
