“Color Columbia: Plein Air Paint Out” event hosts artists at Lake Kittamaqundi and Wilde Lake on September 8
AUGUST 23, 2018 — Artists will ditch their studios for the day to paint al fresco around Lake Kittamaqundi and Wilde Lake — and you can watch along as they capture wildlife, nature, historical and modern architecture, and serene views around two of Columbia’s signature lakes.
Columbia Art Center’s second annual Color Columbia: Plein Air Paint Out will take place on Saturday, September 8 from 8:30am-5pm. Visitors are invited to tour the painting sites at both lakes and watch along as the artists create and complete their works. Site maps will be available at the welcome booth at Lake Kittamaqundi.
From noon-4pm, you can bring your family and friends to join in and have fun painting outdoor landscapes and water scenes of Lake Kittamaqundi. All supplies will be provided, and light instruction will be available. There will also be music provided by a DJ, plus poetry readings, and a pop-up gallery shop featuring art for sale by the plein air participants.
Among the 45 artists confirmed for Color Columbia are Carrie Barcomb, Jill Basham, Joyce Bell, Pat Dillon, Stephanie Lyon, Michael P. McSorley and April Rimpo. Several Howard County high school art groups will also be participating in the event.
The juror for the show is Crystal Moll, who runs the Crystal Moll Gallery in Federal Hill in Baltimore. She received her bachelor’s degree from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia and is an urban landscape painter with a concentration in plein air painting.
The works will then be exhibited at Columbia Art Center (6100 Foreland Garth in the Long Reach Village Center) from September 15-30. A reception for the show will be held on Saturday, September 15 from 2-4pm, with an awards ceremony and poetry reading at 2:45pm.

Columbia Art Center is located at 6100 Foreland Garth in the Long Reach Village Center.
