“Africa CultureFest: The Countries and Cultures of Black Panther and Beyond” set for October 14 in Ellicott City
OCTOBER 2, 2018 — The community is invited to enjoy a free afternoon of African music, dance performances and displays celebrating the countries and cultures highlighted in the movie Black Panther, as well as all other African countries.
“Africa CultureFest: The Countries and Cultures of Black Panther and Beyond” will be held on Sunday, October 14 from 1:30-4:30pm at Howard County Library System’s Miller Branch (9421 Frederick Road in Ellicott City). This free family event is hosted by Columbia Association (CA) and the Howard County Library System.
The African Art Museum of Maryland will have pieces from their collection on display, representing many African cultures. There will also be African arts and crafts on sale. Families can pick up a “CultureFest Passport” upon arrival and complete it for door prizes.
The producers of Black Panther drew upon a wide range of African cultures, traditions and languages from countries as varied as Algeria, Benin, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mali, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, and Tanzania. At the Africa CultureFest, area residents from these and other African countries will represent their cultures and traditions through exhibit tables and performances.
