For All Ages
This class is a two-part clinic to enable parents/guardians to learn to work on water safety skills in their own time and at their own pace. Private instruction can be costly and challenging for swimmers who may also need to develop a relationship with their instructor. We want to empower guardians of anyone who might need extra help on their journey to water safety. This class will be offered on Wednesday evenings at the Columbia Athletic Club – childcare will be available at the KidSpace on site. If you aren’t sure if your diagnosis counts, assume yes!
All ages welcome, and if you have additional questions, feel free to reach out to swim.lessons@columbiaassociation.org for assistance.
- Part 1 is Adults/Guardians only: This portion will work on the skills of the trainer-to-be; how to model skills, how to hold the student and how to discuss the skills involved. Childcare is available at KidSpace, located upstairs by the main entrance to the Athletic Club. Class size will be limited. Please arrive early to handle check in, locker room needs and to locate the pool (downstairs), especially if you have not been to this gym before.
- Part 2 is with your swimmer: We will test the skills you have learned in part one with help from our staff who will be available to assist, demonstrate and answer questions as they arise. While the focus will be on water safety, for the safe enjoyment of the pool, we will also cover some swim stroke techniques. Again, childcare will be available at Kidspace on site in the event you have additional children who will not be participating in the swim lesson but cannot be left alone.
We hope these classes will create space for families that have otherwise struggled with traditional swim lesson models and ease the financial burden that comes with private instruction.
