Dog Day Afternoon postponed due to weather, rescheduled for Saturday, May 20
Dog Day Afternoon has been postponed due to the rain showers that are expected in Columbia through the day of the event. Columbia Association’s (CA) popular annual event has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 20 from10am-2pm at Columbia DogPark.
“Dog Day Afternoon just wouldn’t be as much fun with soggy doggies and muddy puppies,” said David Greisman, a spokesman for Columbia Association. “It was best to postpone Dog Day Afternoon until May 20 so that the event can bring as much joy to dogs and their humans as they have been able to experience in the past.”
Once it stops raining cats — and, yes, dogs — Columbia Association will welcome hundreds of people and their four-legged friends to the 10th annual Dog Day Afternoon for a free day of contests, treats, activities and lots of tail-wagging fun. Columbia DogPark is located at 5901 Rivendell Lane, off Cedar Lane and adjacent to Cedar Lane Park, near the Harper’s Choice Village Center.
The schedule of activities inside “Central Bark” — brought to you by Tail Waggin’ Sponsors VCA Animal Hospitals and Raising K-9 — is as follows:

Additional entertainment may include raffles, music, food — yes, for dogs and for humans — pet demos, face painting, a moon bounce (for people only) and caricature artists. Back by popular demand this year will be pet communications readings with pet communicator Emerald DuCoeur. Dog Day Afternoon also will feature local businesses and organizations, including Top Dog Sponsors Bark Natural and Unleashed Joy, that focus on the health, happiness and well-being of our beloved furry friends.
CA will be selling official Dog Day Afternoon T-shirts for $10, or two for $15. Pet communications readings will be $10 for 10 minutes. Caricature drawings of your loveable four-legged friend are $5 for a black-and-white drawing and $10 for a color drawing. Microchipping will also be available for a minimal fee. Only cash will be accepted during Dog Day Afternoon.
In addition, CA will be collecting items to be donated to a local animal-related nonprofit, including:
- canned cat and dog food
- dry cat and dog food
- soft treats and biscuit-type treats
- new dog and cat toys (Kong-type indestructible toys are great!)
- blankets and towels
- buckle- or martingale-type collars
- leashes
