Art: Out and About |
With Ann Wiker, art historian, artist and instructor for Johns Hopkins’ Osher program and Howard Community College The best way to view art is in person: getting in front of a painting so you can see the actual texture of the paint, moving around a sculpture so you can view it from every angle, or even in a studio, watching the art as it is being created. This series will bring you up close and personal with famous artworks and with brand new art. Each lecture is followed by an optional tour. For the lecture, students will meet with the instructor at Columbia Art Center. For the art tour, students will provide their own transportation and meet the instructor at local studios, museums and galleries. (Note: Tuition is separate for the lecture and the tour. Students are welcome to take one without the other.) This month’s sessions will include a Protest Art lecture and a trip to the Ai Weiwei Exhibit at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. |

When does handmade transition to computer-generated? Does it matter? Enjoy an evening panel discussion among recognized ceramics artists, including those exhibiting in Columbia’s 50th ARTrospective June exhibition in Columbia Art Center. For more information, please call 410-730-0075, email Art.Staff@ColumbiaAssociation.org or visit ColumbiaArtCenter.org. All events held at Columbia Art Center, 6100 Foreland Garth.

The purest form of this art is made in the darkroom with black and white film. The absence of color adds an enigmatic beauty to the image, where you can view the structure of the composition without any distractions. |
