For Ages 4-12 Years

Stroke development is broken up into four different stages. View each class description to find the right fit.

Stroke Development 1 (Ages 4-9)

Lessons are 25 minutes [max 4 students/instructor]

For children who are comfortable getting their face wet, fully submerging under water and pushing away from the wall independently. Students will work on freestyle and beginner backstroke with an emphasis on independent backfloating and breathing without putting feet down or grabbing the wall. If your child is not ready to swim away from the wall of the pool independently, please enroll them in our Intro to Swim class. Children ages 10-12 should be automatically started at Stroke Development Level 2.

Stroke Development 2 (Ages 4-12)

Lessons are 25 minutes [max 5 students/instructor]

For children who are comfortable underwater and can swim 10-20 feet without assistance. Students will review freestyle and backstroke with an emphasis on proper streamline body position, improved arm and kick techniques, and side-breathing. If your child cannot swim past the flags (~15 feet) please enroll them in Stroke Development Level 1. Children older than 12 can enroll in our Teen and Adult classes.

Stroke Development 3 (Ages 5-12)

Lessons are 25 minutes [max 5 students/instructor]

For children who can swim the full length of the pool unassisted. Students will learn breaststroke, review freestyle and backstroke forms for technique improvement along with reading water and introductory diving practice. Students that cannot swim full laps or have anxiety about the deep end of the pool should enroll in Stroke Development Level 2. Children older than 12 can enroll in our Teen and Adult classes.

Stroke Development 4 (Ages 6-12)

Lessons are 25 minutes [max 6 students/instructor]

For children who can swim the full length of the pool and swim full laps of freestyle and breaststroke. Students will review freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and diving for proper technique before beginning to learn butterfly and flip turns. Students that cannot swim breaststroke already should enroll in Stroke Development Level 3. Students that cannot swim full laps or have anxiety about the deep end of the pool should enroll in Stroke Development Level 2. Children older than 12 can enroll in our Teen and Adult classes.
