What's at the CA Lakefront?
As you explore the CA Lakefront, here’s the story behind a few of its landmarks:
- Lake Kittamaqundi: This scenic 27-acre lake – one of three cared for by CA – gets its name from a Native American term meaning “meeting place.” We think that couldn’t be more fitting. Here, you can also enjoy fishing, kayaking and canoeing – see fishing and boating rules here.
- The CA Lakefront Stage: This brand-new addition is designed to elevate the Lakefront entertainment experience. Come out for its debut on Saturday, May 30.
- The People Tree: A beloved symbol of Columbia since 1967, the People Tree represents a community rooted in growth, connection and well-being. Look closely and you’ll see human figures forming its branches. It’s also home to one of our favorite Friday traditions, Dancin’ Under the People Tree.
- Ample open space: Grassy lawns and lots of bench seating make it easy to picnic, play or unwind.
- Places to eat: Choose from nearby options like Grill Marx, Sushi Sono, The Collective Offshore and Whole Foods.
- “The Dealings” statue: The life-size bronze figures are Columbia’s visionary founder, James Rouse, with his brother, Willard – a reminder of Rouse’s vision for a better community for all people.
- Vivian C. “Millie” Bailey Park: Named after a Columbia veteran who lived to 104 years old, this park offers several ways for the community engage, including open space for relaxing and connecting, and a slide and large domed climber for kids to play on. The park is home to the Howard County Veteran and Military Families Monuments.
