Columbia Athletic Club reopens after extensive seven-month renovation project
NOVEMBER 30, 2018 — Columbia Association’s (CA) oldest fitness club is now ready to serve members and guests well into the future.
That’s because Columbia Athletic Club reopened today after an extensive seven-month renovation, transforming the club into a state-of-the-art facility that meets trends and needs, and which provides the experience that CA’s members and guests are seeking with each visit.
“From the initial idea of how to modernize the club all the way through the final touches, we structured this renovation around the most important part of the club — our members,” said Leslie Flynn, general manager of Columbia Athletic Club. “We know Columbia Athletic Club is not just the place to get fit, but also to connect with friends, and we crafted our design around our community’s health and well-being.”
The new, modernized club features a more welcoming front entrance with a living wall of plants. And once members and guests pass by the front desk, they will see several new features, including:
- A more open design, allowing for better flow throughout the club.
- A fresh design for the communal space, where you can grab a coffee and relax with friends.
- Completely renovated and expanded locker rooms.
- A new, larger, ADA-compliant hot tub surrounded by frosted windows, so you can bask in the natural light and have privacy.
- A new functional training space, home to the new TRIBE Team Training program (and available for other members when not in use).
- New cardio equipment — including the Octane LateralX, which was frequently requested by members, and the newly launched Octane Max Trainer, a unique total body HIIT machine geared toward functional training.
- Upgrades to the main group fitness studio.
- Plus a new roof, HVAC systems, and all the behind-the-scenes upgrades needed to make the club feel like home.
Longtime area residents will spot the Completed Circle Fountain that once stood in front of Woodward & Lothrop at The Mall in Columbia. It was made by Jimilu Mason, whose work ”The Hug” is a beloved fixture at the Downtown Columbia Lakefront. Columbia Association has held the fountain in storage for several years and is proud to include it as the “welcome home” feature in front of Columbia Athletic Club.
