Happy Earth Month, Columbia!
There’s only one way to celebrate – outside 😎. Whether you’re looking to give back, try something new or simply enjoy the longer days, here’s how to make the most of April.
Celebrate sustainability
First, check out CA’s 2026 Sustainability Snapshot to learn about all the green projects taking root in your own backyard.
Then mark your calendar for free events like Howard County GreenFest (Saturday, April 11) and the Howard County Library System (HCLS) Earth Day Fair (Saturday, April 18). Plus, say hi to CA’s sustainability team and learn simple ways to help protect the environment.
Join a volunteer group
- Friends of Hopewell Meadow meets on first and third Wednesdays (1-4pm) at Hopewell Park (9210 Curtis Drive) in Owen Brown to nurture native plants. Learn more here.
- CA Weed Warriors remove invasive species and restore natural habitats. Sign up for the next training session on Saturday, May 9 (9am-2pm).
- Check out CA’s volunteer page for ongoing opportunities to make an impact close to home and meet new friends.
Enjoy free community wellness
Fresh air + peaceful vibes = Your new Monday evening routine. Join CA’s barre instructors at the Wilde Lake Barn from April 13 through May 18 (6-6:45pm). Come for the workout and stay for the community!
Find your new favorite play area
With 95 miles of pathways, a play area is always just around the corner – and with longer days, there’s more time to play! Explore all of CA’s play areas here.
Cast your vote early
Columbia’s village elections take place Saturday, April 25, but many villages offer absentee ballots and online voting options starting in early April. Visit ColumbiaAssociation.org/Vote to learn more and make your voice heard.
