Columbia Athlete Performance Program (CAPP)

For middle and high school athletes. Offered at all three fitness clubs! For more information, email Personal.Training@ColumbiaAssociation.org.

Maximize your athlete’s potential!  CA’s newest training program is designed for middle and high school athletes to meet the demands of their sport, physically and mentally.

CAPP consists of two formats, Maximum Performance and Accelerate, that provide the tools young athletes need to improve their strength, endurance, power, speed, agility and mobility.  Our coaches help athletes of all levels reach their peak condition so they are as strong and fast at the final whistle as they were at the first.

CAAP runs two days per week for a 6-week season, in small groups of up to 8 athletes, allowing us to deliver individual instruction in a safe environment while maintaining camaraderie and motivation.

All athletes start with a baseline assessment to measure aerobic endurance, power and change in direction and are reassessed at the end of the season to mark improvements. Each training day is dedicated to a different focus allowing for the development of a well-rounded athlete that will be more prepared for the demands of their sport.

CAPP is led by CA Personal Trainer, Keith Oelschlaeger, who is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), USA Weightlifting Sport Performance Coach (USAW-L2) and Reflexive Performance Reset Level 2 (RPR-L2).

Programs:

Maximum Performance:

Focuses on movement quality to improve performance. We achieve this by building strength, endurance and power through plyometrics, weighted and body-weight exercise, as well as core stability. Sessions are designed to promote progression and improvement over time, with the added benefit of reducing injury risk through improved proprioception and movement patterns. The importance of mobility and flexibility and proper recovery methods will also be emphasized.

Accelerate:

Focuses on speed and agility, including linear speed, change of direction, footwork and running mechanics. Speed and agility are often used interchangeably but are actually distinctively different. Speed training focuses on an athlete’s physical ability and the predictable demands of sport, while agility training involves our ability to react to the unpredictable demands of sport. Accelerate will develop both aspects of training in our athletes. The importance of mobility and flexibility and proper recovery methods will also be emphasized.
